Red Hat, Reverse Cyclone
mixed media on canvas
14” x 11”
Here’s how I described this painting in 2016:
“Right off the bat, a note about the paint. I'm publishing this painting in 2016 but it was completed in 2010. Because I didn't publish at the time, I honestly forget if I painted it in oils or acrylics, which is the only reason I'm listing it here as "mixed media." What I can tell you is that I painted it at the same time and with a group of self-portraits that I definitely did in oils AND that there is a gob of paint on the t-shirt collar that reads clearly like oil paint. [And that is why I like to publish paintings when they are done, because, as in this case, 6 years after the fact, I find it hard to remember the materials.]
I painted this from life, in a mirror, in front of a huge painting of the Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster I was working on but later destroyed.”
One in a continuing series of self-portraits that I’ve made since 1979.
